Think in sequences, not isolated purchases
Before adding a large load, create a simple roadmap for the next five years. If an EV, heat pump, water heater, range, solar inverter or battery is likely, tell each contractor. A coordinated plan can reserve panel space, reduce duplicate work and make conduit or service choices more useful.

What a professional should verify
- Service rating, panel bus rating, main breaker and available spaces
- A code-compliant load calculation and local utility requirements
- Existing equipment condition, grounding/bonding and conductor routes
- Whether load management or a subpanel is appropriate
- Future solar, storage and generator/transfer plans
Permit and installation requirements vary
EV charging and other hardwired equipment should be installed under applicable codes and local permitting rules. Manufacturer maximum charging speed is not a requirement to install the largest possible circuit.
